What is the ejaculatory duct? The ejaculatory duct leads from the seminal vesicle, which sits above the prostate, to the urethra, which is in the middle of the prostate. It carries the seminal fluid and sperm, which are two of the three substances that make up the semen. There are two ejaculatory ducts, as there are two seminal vesicles. The ejaculatory ducts are extremely thin. There is an outer fibrous layer, which is almost entirely lost after the entrance of the ducts into the prostate; a layer of muscular fibers consisting of a thin outer circular layer and an inner longitudinal layer. There is also a mucous membrane lining. The unions of the vasa deferentia and the seminal vesicles form each ejaculatory duct as they enter the prostate. The ejaculatory ducts begin at the base of the prostate, and run forward and upward between the middle and lateral lobes, and along the sides of the prostatic utricle, to end up as separate slit-like orifices close to, or just within, the margins of the utricle. The ducts diminish in size, and also converge, toward their terminations. The ejaculatory duct is the conduit that carries the seminal fluid and the sperm into the urethra of the penis. Symptoms associated with ejaculatory duct obstruction are extremely variable. Men may complain of decrease in the projectile nature of their ejaculate. Occasionally, vague discomfort is noticed in the area between the scrotum and anus. Pelvic pain may occur, as may pain before, during or after ejaculation. Ejaculatory
